MESA Get Together
15 February 2004 - Marine Discovery Centre, Queenscliff

Come along and be inspired!

This event will provide MESA members with the opportunity to meet other people passionate about marine education. During the get together, you will learn about exciting marine projects happening around the state, the country and the world!

Information on funding and support opportunities will be discussed, as well as brilliant ideas for Seaweek!

Presentations

9:30 am Welcome - Alex Giannuzzi, Marine Discovery Centre

10:00 am Harry Breidahl - The International Scene
A great deal is happening on the international scene, especially in the area of ocean exploration. Set against a background of two recent trips to the US to work as an educator aboard deep-sea exploration cruises, Harry will explore the opportunities for Australians (yes you!) to work overseas.

11:00 am Jody Plecas
Jody will chat about the 2005 Hawaii Conference and the very exciting Hands Across the Water Project.

11:30 am Mark Rodrigue
Mark will inspire us with ideas for Seaweek, with a focus on the Festival of the Sea at Barwon Heads.

12 noon BBQ Lunch at Point Lonsdale (weather dependant)

1: 00 pm Incredible Adventure!
Experience the magnificent rocky shores of the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park at Point Lonsdale.

2:30 pm Cheryl Linford, Teacher Bellarine Secondary College
What is hip and happening in marine ed at Bellarine Secondary College?

3:00 pm Di Moore, Coast Action Coast Care
Di will provide examples of marine based projects and opportunities for funding and support through Coast Action/Coastcare.

3:30 pm Brooke Connor, MESA Victorian Representative
Brooke will discuss the exciting new Seabird Protection Project for Victoria's coast.

4:00 pm Thank you and Finish

Intertidal Training Day
Delivered by the Marine Discovery Centre & Coast Action/Coastcare


Where: Marine Discovery Centre, Weeroona Parade, Queenscliff
When: Saturday 14th February 2004
RSVP to Dianne Moore by Wednesday 11th February - 5226 4669. Max. 30 participants.

9:00am - Meet at Marine Discovery Centre - morning tea and look around at the displays.

9:30am - Outline of the day, introductory presentations, including MDC, Reefwatch, Marine Parks and Sanctuaries and Coast Action/Coastcare

11:00am - Short break, change shoes, travel to Barwon Heads (car pool)

11:30am - Meet at the Bluff carpark for rocky shore investigation/transects etc
(Tides: Sat 14th 11:07am 0.08m)

1:30pm - Participants to get their own lunch on the way to Queenscliff. Meet back at Marine Discovery Centre by 2:30pm.

2:30 - 3:15pm Group 1 - Rockyshore database and looking at data collected at the Bluff. (MDC)
Group 2 - Looking closer - lab session in the Esso Marine Education Lab.

3:15 - 4:00pm Group 1 - Looking closer - lab session in the Esso Marine Education Lab.
Group 2 - Rockyshore database and looking at data collected at the Bluff. (MDC)
