MESA Marine Education Workshop
Saturday May 15th, 2004 - Woodleigh School, Baxter

Following on from the earlier workshop at Queenscliff, Harry Breidahl has put together this workshop for Victorian MESA members and others.

Who: Teachers (primary and secondary), education and natural resources undergraduates and community group leaders (MESA members, Coast Action and others).

When: Saturday May 15th - start time 9.30 am (for 9.45 am) finish 3.00 pm

Where: Woodleigh School - Golf Links Rd Baxter - Melway Map 107 E3

Cost: $22.00 ($16.50 for MESA members) for conference fee, morning tea, lunch and GST

Program Highlights:

* Woodleigh School's new science centre, including marine lab and aquarium complex

* Brief presentations on four coastal and marine issues (science display centre)

* Two sessions of ½ hour presentations (participants choose 1 of 3 options in each session)
    · Coastal and Marine Schools Project (Jan Oliver - MESA)
    · Fots Leaders - Mentors in the Middle Years (Cheryl Linford - Bellarine Sec School)
    · I See I Care (Jeff Weir - Dolphin Research Institute)
    · Woodleigh School's marine program (Jane Breidahl - Woodleigh School)
    · Clean Ocean (Graham Quail - Clan Ocean Foundation)
    · The Southern Shores Project (Harry Breidahl - Nautilus Educational)

* Two 1 hour activity sessions (participants choose 1 of 3 options in each session)
    · Rocky Shores surveys (Alex Giannuzzi - Marine Discovery Centre)
    · Fots Leaders - Mentors in the Middle Years (Cheryl Linford - Bellarine Sec School)
    · Setting-up a marine aquarium at school (various presenters)
    · Observing marine organisms in the laboratory (Jane Breidahl - Woodleigh School)
    · Exploring Victoria's marine national parks (Brooke Connor - Parks Victoria)
    · Marine water testing (Harry Breidahl - Woodleigh School)
