Cocos Coral Reef Life (7th-11th March)

Students of Cocos (Keeling) District High School's Home Island and West Island Campuses will spend the week on the reef!

Year P-6 students will undertake an investigation using underwater viewing instruments to observe and learn about the flora and fauna of the coral reef ecosystem.

Year 7-10 students will be snorkelling and recording their observations of reef corals and fish, and their interactions.

Local schools have the opportunity to be involved in a number of presentations inlcuding:
* Careers in Marine Science: Local scientists and managers give an insight into their careers. Listen to some of their varied and fascinating underwater stories!
* Become involved in Marine Science locally: explore some of the research being undertaken at a community level and how students can become involved
* Clean Drains, Roebuck Bay Gains: gain a glimpse into a new local campaign against Lyngbya, an algae having devastating impacts on Roebuck Bay.

Seaweek Educators' Expo (February 25)

Seaweek Educators Expo is a fantastic learning and professional development opportunity; you can network with like-minded educators, meet knowledgeable marine and coastal educators
and find out the latest in marine education in Western Australia.
What’s involved?
• The main expo venue is the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre and Fisheries and Marine Research Laboratories,Hillarys Boat Harbour.
• Explore the theme ‘Spotlight on Marine Science’ and learn more about the value of research on marine and coastal environments and understand more about the complex ecosystems that exist in our marine environment to become
better equipped to preserve it.
• The keynote address will be presented by WA’s Chief Scientist, Professor Lyn Beazley.
• Enjoy a tour aboard the Department of Fisheries’ amazing Research Vessel, Naturaliste.
• Choose one of our two other morning marine adventure workshops.
• Choose two of our afternoon concurrent workshops in the.
• Receive resources you can utilise back in the classroom.
