Chordates

Chordates are those animals which possess a backbone. These include the fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. In this website on intertidal animals and algae, we will not be looking at any of these groups.

The protochordates (pro-chordates) such as the Ascidians, including the Sea-squirts, have several features which link them to the higher chordate animals.
